Garcia Marquez 'suffering from dementia', says brother

The sibling of Gabriel Garcia Marquez says that the Colombian writer and victorious one of the 1982 Nobel Award for Literary works is experiencing dementia.

Jaime Garcia Marquez informed learners at a session in the town of Cartagena that his sibling, who is 85, mobile phones him regularly to ask concerns.

"He has issues with his storage. Sometimes I cry because I experience like I'm dropping him," he said.

He says the writer has ceased composing completely.

The BBC's Arturo Wallace in Colombia said there have been gossip about Mr Garcia Marquez' storage issues.

Jaime Garcia Marquez, his youthful sibling, is the first loved one to discuss openly about it.

Invited to discuss his connection with Gabo, as the writer is passionately known in Colombia, Jaime said he could not suppress from referring to his sickness any longer.

"He is doing well actually, but he has been experiencing dementia for years," he said. "He still has the comedy, joy and passion that he has always had."
